A publicly traded mining company in Canada has just landed a new designation from the European Union Commission. And it might change the future of copper production in Norway.

What’s happening:

  • The European Union Commission has officially designated Blue Moon Metals' (TSXV: MOON) flagship copper property the Nussir Project located in Norway a Strategic Critical Raw Material Project

Why it matters:

  • The Nussir Project is the first ever mining property located in Norway to receive this designation

Going deeper:

  • The Nussir Project is widely considered to be the single largest copper deposit to ever be discovered within Norway, with a total resource estimate of more than 70M tonnes of copper ore
  • The European Union Commission has only ever given this designation to 13 mining projects that are located outside of countries within the European Union
  • The Strategic Critical Raw Material Project designation enables Blue Moon Metals to receive formal support from the European Union Commission, access to new types of public and private financing and political support to advance the project into full scale production
