- This is the first time ever that Meta Platforms has committed to building a data centre in Canada
Going deeper:
- The new data centre in Sturgeon County, Albert will be powered by a dedicated 930 megawatt natural gas power plant which will be built specifically to supply long term electricity for Meta Platforms’ data centre campus
- Meta Platforms has also publicly stated they plan to invest roughly $60M CAD into local infrastructure to support their new data centre including building roads and water infrastructure
The intrigue:
- HIVE Digital Technologies (NASDAQ: HIVE) recently made waves when they committed to build a 320 megawatt data centre in the Greater Toronto Area which would be capable of hosting more than 100,000 GPUs at full capacity
