Mitsubishi Motors wants to be on the leading edge of robotics. Which is exactly why they’ve just struck a new partnership with a startup in Tokyo.
What’s happening:
- Mitsubishi Motors has partnered with Tokyo based robotics startup Highlanders to build humanoid robots to be used in car factories
Why it matters:
- Mitsubishi Motors has publicly stated that they will collaborate with Highlanders to accelerate mass production of Highlanders’ robots at Mitsubishi Motor’s Kyoto Plant
Going deeper:
- Highlanders was initially spun out of the University of Tokyo and has developed a portfolio of both humanoid robots as well as quadruped robots
- Mitsubishi Motors is also a strategic investor in Highlanders and has publicly stated they plan to make deploy more capital into Highlanders to advance their research and development
