What’s happening:
- Stripe, Visa (NYSE: V), Coinbase (NASDAQ: COIN) and BlackRock have partnered together on the launch of a new stablecoin known as Open USD
Why it matters:
- Open USD is being supported by more than 140 different companies including Google (NASDAQ: GOOG), Shopify (NASDAQ: SHOP), DoorDash (NASDAQ: DASH) and American Express (NYSE: AXP)

- Open USD will be operated by Open Standard which is an independent company with a board of directors comprised of companies who have directly partnered with Open USD
- Stripe has publicly stated that they plan to integrate Open USD directly into their platform as their default stablecoin for global transfers and payments
