Mentioned:
The world urgently needs more cesium supply. And Patriot Battery Metals might have found the next large scale deposit in Quebec.
What’s happening:
- Patriot Battery Metals (TSX: PMET) has announced a new significant cesium discovery at their flagship Shaakichiuwaanaan Property located in the James Bay region of Quebec, Canada
By the numbers:
- The largest cesium zone discovered by Patriot Battery Metals is roughly 600 metres by 400 metres in area and has mineralization starting approximately 125-150 metres below the surface
- Patriot Battery Metals’ early drilling results showed cesium grades exceeding 1% and certain intercepts even reaching 10-20%, which is widely considered to be extremely high
Why it matters:
- Cesium is an exceptionally rare metal and has many important applications, including medical imaging, nuclear energy, quantum physics and even aerospace
Going deeper:
- Cesium has very few large scale global producers and has come into major focus in geopolitics largely due to Chinese owned Sinomine Resource Group being the world’s largest supplier of cesium
The intrigue:
- Patriot Battery Metals previously made waves when they landed a $69M CAD strategic investment from Volkswagen to supply them with spodumene concentrate
