The future of military combat is moving towards autonomous robots. And a startup in California is aiming to be on the leading edge of it.
What’s happening:
- California based autonomous defense robotics startup Scout AI has come out of steal mode and announced a $15M USD seed round
- The funding round was led by Align Ventures and Booz Allen Ventures
The big idea:
- Scout AI’s flagship product is known as Fury, which is a Vision-Language-Action foundational artificial intelligence model that is capable of perceiving threats and following natural language commands
- Fury is also capable of issuing commands to robotics platform to turn instructions into real time action in combat
Why it matters:
- Scout AI is aiming to build next generation autonomous weapons for military combat and has already secured two contracts with the United States Department of Defense
Going deeper:
- Multiple other prominent venture capital funds also participated in Scout AI’s seed round, including Draper Associates, Decisive Point Ventures, FJ Labs and others
- Scout AI’s Fury platform is also able to operate fully autonomously, which allows robots to perform in combat in areas without any GPS or telecommunication networks
The intrigue:
- Silicon Valley investors have been pouring capital into autonomous robotics startups for military combat lately, with Craft Ventures just recently leading a $30M USD financing round for Allen Control Systems for leveraging artificial intelligence technology and robots for countering drone attacks
