One of the most prominent venture capital funds ever is making a big push into the public markets. And Jeff Bezos and Michael Dell are getting behind it.

What’s happening:

  • Coatue Management has launched a new hybrid investment fund known as the Coatue Innovation Fund

Why it matters:

  • The Coatue Innovation Fund is launching with $1B USD in initial funding commitments from the family offices of Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) founder Jeff Bezos and Dell founder (NYSE: DELL) Michael Dell

Going deeper:

  • Coatue’s new fund will not be a traditional venture capital fund and will instead invest in both private and publicly traded companies focused on technology, artificial intelligence, robotics, hardware, energy, drug discovery and defense tech
  • Coatue Management has consistently been one of the top performing venture capital funds in Silicon Valley, with more than $26B USD in assets under management and notable early stage investments into technology companies that ultimately went public such as Snap (NYSE: SNAP), Uber (NYSE: UBER) and Rivian Automotive (NASDAQ: RIVN)

The intrigue:

  • The founders and operators of Coatue are also investing $150M USD of their own personal capital into the new fund
