The future of ordering food might have a lot to do with drones.

What’s happening:

  • Irish based startup Manna is aiming to have drones replace cars for delivering food
  • Manna recently landed a strategic investment from the venture arm of Coca Cola HBC

Why it matters:

  • Drones for food delivery are potentially a huge positive for the environment as they emit substantially less carbon than cars
  • Manna has already inked multiple large partnerships including one with Samsung and another with European grocery giant Tesco

By the numbers:

  • Manna claims they can do 20 different deliveries per hour which is more than 10x what road based deliveries are capable of
  • Their drones fly at an average speed of 60 kilometres per hour and operate at an altitude of 50 metres or more
  • Manna’s drones can deliver packages up to a maximum of 2 kilograms in weight

The intrigue:

  • In Ireland, Manna has a partnership with Ben & Jerry’s to deliver their iconic ice cream brand
