There’s a new technology that wants to change the future of tattoos.
What’s happening:
- Austin, Texas based startup Blackdot has emerged from stealth mode and unveiled the first automatic tattooing device in the world
- Blackdot's machine can deliver tattoos with extreme precision and predictability leveraging biocompatible technology
How it works:
- The platform technology tests each individuals unique skin type with a number of small concealed ‘test dots’ before beginning the actual tattoo process with ink
- Blackdot’s technology then compares how their skin reacted to the initial test and maps the most optimal plan for design
- The aim is to deliver a tattoo experience that is as precise as a surgery and with minimal discomfort throughout the process
The intrigue:
- Blackdot is enabling popular tattoo artists to be able to earn revenue from their generative designs and art, even if they aren’t the one administering the tattoo themselves
- Select artists can submit their designs and earn a royalty every time the tattoo is actually given to someone
Going deeper:
- So far there is only one Blackout machine that is publicly available which is based in Austin
- Blackdot has publicly stated they have plans to roll out their machines in Los Angeles, New York, Miami and Las Vegas next
