Drone delivery is about to go to the next level in the United States of America. And Walmart and Wing are behind it.
What’s happening:
- Walmart (NYSE: WMT) and drone company Wing have launched the world’s largest expansion of drone delivery ever into major cities throughout the United States of America
By the numbers:
- Wing’s fleet of drones will be deployed in 100 new Walmart locations across America
- Wing and Walmart have already successfully completed more than 150,000 drone deliveries in the United States and plan to significantly scale up by making Wing’s drones available to millions of new customers
Why it matters:
- This is the single largest expansion of drone delivery to ever happen globally and also establishes Walmart as the first major retailer in America to scale up drone delivery across multiple different states
Going deeper:
- Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Orland and Tampa will be amongst the first new cities that Wing’s fleet of drones will become available in as part of the new aggressive expansion plans with Walmart
- Walmart customers will be able to use Wing’s drones to order groceries and small items directly to their home through the Wing mobile app
The intrigue:
- Wing has also been ramping up other partnerships with publicly traded companies in the United States, including previously doing a deal with Serve Robotics (NASDAQ: SERV) to combine autonomous robotics with their drone delivery technology
