What if you could test for cancer from your own home?

That’s exactly what new healthcare startup CleanCard is aiming to build.

What’s happening:

  • Backed by Y Combinator, CleanCard is trying to make testing for cancer as simple as testing for pregnancy
  • With at home kits, CleanCard is bringing together biology and computation to create first of its kind diagnostics

The big idea:

  • Current cancer screening takes a lot of time and can be costly, which leads many people to avoid it
  • Early cancer detection is one of the best things individuals can do to survive cancer but very few people do so through the traditional healthcare system
  • Bringing rapid at home testing to early cancer detection could unlock a huge increase in participation

How it works:

  • The rapid at home tests are able to screen for prostate, bladder and ovarian cancers from one single sample of urine
  • Using machine learning, synthetic biology and AI, CleanCard technology detects biomarkers to be able to get your results in half an hour

Going deeper:

  • The larger vision for CleanCard is to be able to expand to more types of cancer screening using the same simple testing method
  • By having access to enormous amounts of data from individual tests CleanCard aims to be able to build predictive disease models to catch diseases in their earliest stages
  • They believe the underlying technology when equipped with more comprehensive data will eventually be able to screen for diseases beyond cancer
